TY Trip to Edinburgh
Our Transition Year students recently enjoyed an action-packed trip to Edinburgh filled with history, culture, and plenty of laughs.
Day 1 began with a very early flight, but excitement quickly took over as we headed straight into sightseeing. First stop was the iconic Edinburgh Castle, followed by the spooky and atmospheric Edinburgh Dungeons. After a packed day, everyone was glad to get to the hostel and rest up for the days ahead.
Day 2 started with a visit to the National Museum of Scotland, where students saw some fascinating exhibits, including a mummified body from Ancient Egypt, Dolly the Sheep (the first cloned mammal), the famous Lewis Chess Pieces, and an impressive Roman silver hoard. Later, we stopped by the Greyfriars Bobby statue, where many students joined in the tradition of touching his nose for luck. The day finished with some light-hearted fun as students enjoyed bowling and mini golf.
Day 3 took us beneath the city streets to The Real Mary King’s Close. With the help of costumed actors and engaging storytelling, the hidden history of Edinburgh came to life in a truly memorable way. Afterwards, we visited the Scottish Parliament before wrapping up the day with laser tag – a definite highlight for many, especially as students had the chance to (harmlessly!) shoot their teachers.
On Day 4, we climbed the Scott Monument for panoramic views of the city, took in the scenery from Calton Hill, visited the National Gallery of Scotland, and squeezed in some shopping before heading to the airport for the flight home.
The trip was a perfect mix of education, culture, and fun — a real highlight of the TY calendar and an experience that will be remembered for years to come.
